About

Fostering Insightful Art Conversations for those with Memory Challenges

Curiosity Art Circle is an interactive art discussion group, based on the research and principles of groundbreaking arts programming for those with dementia, such as The MoMA Alzheimer’s Project and Visual Thinking Strategies. It is aimed at learning HOW to look at art and create meaningful connections to it.

In each session, we look at 5 pieces of art around a common theme (ex. Self Portraits, Political Art, Vincent Van Gogh, etc.). Rather than a lecture about the history of the piece, participants are asked to observe the piece and discuss what they notice about it, and what meaning can be made from what we notice.

The discussions are dynamic and engaging, and help build and enhance critical thinking skills, media literacy, social engagement, and artistic connection.

Sessions are appropriate for those with early to moderate stage memory loss, their care partners, and anyone interested in learning the language of visual art.
